Jimmy Bullard’s Celtic loan deal collapses to Hull City’s disgust

• Hull furious at player’s ‘absolutely ridiculous’ wage demands
• Club’s Adam Pearson scathing about Bullard’s attitude

Jimmy Bullard’s proposed season-long loan deal with Celtic has collapsed after the Hull City midfielder failed to agree personal terms with the Glasgow club. The injury prone midfielder, Hull’s highest earner on around £50,000 a week, travelled to Scotland for talks with Celtic last week but, to the disappointment of Hull’s head of football operations, Adam Pearson, Bullard is now expected back in East Yorkshire this week.

“The deal is off… because of the absolutely ridiculous financial demands being made by the player,” said Pearson. “We have bent over backwards to try to make this happen and four weeks ago there was an agreement with Celtic in place over a year-long loan.

“But now it seems Jimmy wants extra cash on top and he has jeopardised the chance to play for a great club. Who would not want to play for Celtic with a chance of European football and silverware?

“Hull City were prepared to subsidise a year in Glasgow for Bullard. Let’s just say we would have made a significant contribution to the overall wage package. But unless he has a dramatic change of heart overnight, we expect him back here. He has had four weeks to make up his mind and has strung people along, frankly.”

Geovanni leaves Hull by mutual consent

• Brazilian’s contract terminated with 12 months still to run
• Hull forced to clear out high earners following relegation

Geovanni has left Hull after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The Brazilian, who scored Hull’s first ever goal in the Premier League, still had a year remaining on his deal.

The 30-year-old joined the north-east club on a free transfer from Manchester City in the summer of 2008 and made a total of 65 appearances, scoring 13 goals.

Hull have been forced to release their high-wage earners at the KC Stadium following their relegation from the top flight last season.

Geovanni is a reported target for Greek clubs AEK Athens and Panathinaikos.

Bernard Mendy leaves relegated Hull City by mutual consent

• French left-back made 56 appearances in two years
• Other players asked to defer proportion of their wages

The Hull left-back Bernard Mendy has left the club by mutual consent. The 28-year-old Frenchman made 56 appearances for the side after arriving on a free transfer in July 2008.

“Everybody at Hull City would like to thank Bernard for his efforts during his two seasons at the KC Stadium and we wish him well for the future,” said a club statement.

Mendy’s departure is unlikely to be the last as the club seek to stabilise their finances following their relegation to the Championship.

The club’s head of football operations, Adam Pearson, put a proposal to players last week which would mean they would defer a proportion of their wages in the short term to ease the burden over the summer months.
