Squad sheets: Wigan Athletic v Hull City

A point for West Ham against Fulham will officially put Hull out of their Premier League misery before they arrive at the DW Stadium. Their only hope should the Hammers fail to collect another point will be to win their two remaining matches while overturning a goal difference of 23 in the process. It’s not going to happen. The trip to Wigan will be painful but also educational for a Hull board striving to avoid administration. They should look at Roberto Martínez and study a manager who can spend what little money he has wisely. Andy Hunter

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink taken for CT scan after sickening head clash

• Dutch striker carried from field unconscious after collision
• ‘I doubt he’ll play again this season’ says Iain Dowie

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Hull City’s striker, was taken to hopsital for a CT scan tonight after being carried from the KC Stadium pitch unconscious on a stretcher following a clash of heads with Aston Villa’s Richard Dunne.

Play was halted for seven minutes early in the second half of Villa’s 2-0 win after the Dutchman was knocked out by the collision.

“Jan’s gone to hospital for a CT scan,” said Iain Dowie, the Hull manager. “We’ll have to wait and see how he is but he wasn’t looking in a good way.

“He landed unconscious so we’ve got to be very careful. I’d be doubtful he’ll play again this season.”

Squad sheets: Hull City v Arsenal

When Sir Alex Ferguson noted that Arsenal had the easiest run-in of the three title contenders he was right in terms of the league positions of the clubs Arsène Wenger’s men face. However, a trip to Hull is not something Arsenal will relish. There is plenty of ill-feeling between the two sides and the Tigers possess a formidable home record. Since mid-September, only Manchester United have won at the KC Stadium and Hull have taken points from Chelsea and Manchester City in their two most recent games. Cesc Fábregas will not feature and there are injury doubts over several others. Tim Rich
